A bad theme could totally mess up your device or you could contract a virus if downloading to your PC, so caution is in order.
When you find an interesting theme, take note of the phone model and OS version and make sure that these specifications match those of your phone. You can click options on your Blackberry to find out this information if you do not already know it. If the specs do not match, find another theme as you could be courting disaster by downloading an incompatible theme.
Some downloads can be done over the air directly to your phone while others require download to a PC. In the latter case, RIM's Desktop Manager software can be used to sync the software to your device.

Now, you can use the blackberry device for activating the OTA files. Select JAD file. Click on Download. The application would load on to the blackberry in the theme/application menu.
Now, use the download link for directly installing to the Blackberry. Now, restart the device so that its software registers the new.cod file.
